Tip 1: Read the washing label and keep colours separate

It may sound obvious, but it is important to always read the care label before washing your shirt. On the label, you will find information about the fabric, temperature, programme and drying method suitable for your shirt. Follow these instructions to avoid shrinking, discolouring or damaging your shirt. Also prevent unwanted colour run-through by sorting your laundry by colour. Wash dark and light colours separately to make sure your white T-shirts don't accidentally change colour shades.

Tip 2: Wash your t-shirt and sweatshirt inside out to protect outside

A simple but effective way to protect your shirt from wear and tear is to wash it inside out. Turn your T-shirts and jumpers inside out before putting them in the washing machine. This will prevent colours from fading or applications or prints on your graphic t-shirt from coming off due to friction on the surface. Moreover, this will also help you remove stains better, as they are on the inside of the shirt.

Tip 3: Use a mild detergent

Too aggressive a detergent can tarnish your shirt and cause the colours to fade. Therefore, choose a mild detergent suitable for your shirt's fabric. Also avoid using bleach, fabric softener or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the fibres of your shirt or affect the applications and treatments of your designers t-shirt . Choose a detergent specifically for coloured clothes.

Tip 4: Sort your laundry by colour

To prevent your shirt from discolouring or bleeding on other garments, it is important to sort your laundry by colour. Wash your white shirts separately from your light-coloured shirts, and wash your dark shirts separately from your light shirts. This will keep your t-shirt with print fresh and bright in colour for longer.  Bright, warm colours like purple, red, orange and even yellow can be washed together. Green can go with blue. New clothes or pieces you don't want the colour to fade are best washed by hand, especially the first few times. When hand washing, use as little soap as possible.

Tip 5: Choose a low temperature

A high temperature can shrink or distort your shirt or sweater. For clothing, 30 degrees is sufficient. Cotton and coloured clothes should be washed on the cotton programme at 30 degrees. The lower the temperature, the better for your shirt. Moreover, this way you also save energy and contribute to a more sustainable world. It is even better to use a stain remover or Ossegal for dirty spots on your laundry and then you can wash just fine at 30 degrees. This way your clothes are less likely to get damaged and last longer.

Tip 6: Choose a short programme

A long programme can unnecessarily stress and wear out your shirt. Therefore, choose a short programme, preferably no longer than 30 or 40 minutes. The shorter the programme, the better for your shirt. Moreover, this way you also save water and contribute to a more sustainable world.

Tip 7: Choose a low speed

A high rpm can damage or pill your shirt due to the rapid rotation of the drum. Therefore, choose a low speed, preferably no higher than 400 rpm. The lower the rpm, the better for your t-shirt. And jumper. Moreover, this way you also save energy and contribute to a more sustainable world.

Tip 8: Let your t-shirt air dry

A dryer can shrink or distort your shirt. So let your shirt air-dry, preferably on a clothesline or a drying rack. This will preserve the shape and quality of your shirt. A tumble dryer is not good for the fabric of your T-shirt or jumper. By using a high temperature, dryers are bad for your laundry. With every wash, lint will come loose from your laundry, causing your clothes to wear out and the fabrics to become thinner. Moreover, you will also save energy and contribute to a more sustainable world.

Tip 9: Iron your t-shirt the right way

An iron can burn or damage your shirt. Iron your shirt properly, preferably inside out and at a low temperature. This will prevent your shirt from shining or the appliqués or prints on your cool t-shirt from melting. Plus, this will also help you smooth out any creases. Note: No106's t-shirts and jumpers are all made of Cotton. If you buy shirts or clothes made of synthetic fabrics such as polyester, nylon and viscose, it's better not to iron them.

Tip 10: Dressmaker for minor flaws and alterations

Notice that your designer t-shirt from No106 doesn't actually wear very often because it has a hole or small tear? Stop by a clothing repair shop! Not only can they make torn clothes as good as new again, they can also help you adjust your clothes so you can still wear them.

Bonus Tip from No106:

To enjoy your shirts for as long as possible, it is best to store your clothes in a dark room to avoid discolouration. A wardrobe with doors is best for this. Do you prefer to keep your shirts in an open wardrobe? Then make sure the wardrobe is in an area without direct sunlight.
